Hyunjung Kim, Ph.D.

Hyunjung Kim received her B.S. in Economics, Management and Urban and Environmental Engineering from Handong Global University, Korea, and her M.S. in Civil Engineering (Concentration: Urban Planning) from Seoul National University, Korea, and her Ph.D. in Urban Engineering (Concentration: Urban Planning) from the University of Tokyo, Japan in 2015. After working as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Tokyo (2015) and a solution engineering manager at Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) Korea (2016-2017), she joined the International School of Urban Sciences at the University of Seoul, Korea to serve as a Research Professor (2017), and lecturer/research professor at Seoul National University (2017-2022). In 2022, Dr. Kim joined the School of Creative Convergence Education at Handong Global University as a full-time tenured track professor.

Dr. Kim teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in the area of the School of Creative Convergence Education (Market Analysis Based on Spatial Data Convergence, Data Science), etc. Her research interest is in making sustainable smart cities, urban shrinking, age-friendly environments, urban analytics using Spatio-temporal big data, GISLBS (Geographic Information System and Location Based Services), Geo AI and etc.

Since 2008, Dr. Kim participated in 20+ research projects in urban planning and engineering Including government R&D projects, local government projects, 3rd world urban planning projects (Thailand, Mongolia), international smart cities engineering projects (LA, Singapore), international human resources developments, industry-academic collaboration projects, multidisciplinary projects (with  software engineering departments, GIS industries, medical schools, etc.)

Dr. Kim is a life member of the Korean Planning Association (Member for Smart City Planning Research Committee), The Korean Regional Development Association, Urban Design Institute of Korea (Member of the Universality Research Committee), and also an editor of the Korea Industrial Technology Convergence Society
